Our Programs

The mission of the Meeting House Montessori School is to prepare learning environments for children between the ages of 2.9 and 11 years that will aid in their natural development.
This includes:

  • Creating environments where trust, respect, responsibility, community and cooperation can flourish.
  • Nurturing the social, emotional, and cognitive developmental needs for each child individually.
  • Respecting the rights of children as independent beings.
  • Providing a place where children are heard and given the opportunity for self-expression.
  • Creating challenging and safe environments.
  • Giving each child the tools necessary for him or her to realize his or her full potential.

  • Pre-Primary

    The pre-primary classroom is a child's world, focusing on the size, pace and interests of children between the ages of three and six. At this age, the child has what Maria Montessori referred to as an "absorbent mind." The mind literally absorbs information from the environment like a sponge. Acquiring information in this effortless way is a natural and delightful activity for the young
    child. Our Montessori Pre-primary program is a unique cycle of learning designed to take advantage of the child's sensitive years when he can effortlessly absorb information from an
    enriched classroom environment. The classroom is a prepared environment for the child's unique aptitude for learning.

    The environment is divided into six main areas in which the children are free to explore:

    • Practical life
    • Sensorial
    • Language
    • Math
    • Geography
    • Science
  • Lower Elementary

    The Lower Elementary Program is for children six to nine years-old. Imagination is the great power of this age and our program is structured to nurture and support this power. This special mental ability enables the child to imagine what exists or has existed but cannot be seen because of time or distance. Not only can imagination travel through infinite space but also through infinite time. So, the Lower Elementary child learns about such things as how humans have met their basic needs since they first appeared on earth, how the earth was formed, how plant and animal life are deeply interconnected.

    Lower Elementary children want to become self-sufficient, prove their new independence and help their neighbor. They have hunger for knowledge and understanding. Our hope is that the child loves everything learned, for mental and emotional growth.

    A strong emphasis is placed on learning basic academics: reading, writing, math, geometry, and grammar. At this age, our teachers still rely upon the use of physical, manipulative materials to teach abstract concepts.
  • Upper Elementary

    The Upper Elementary Program serves students ages nine to twelve years-old in 4th and 5th grades.

    The Upper Elementary classrooms include:
    • a diverse set of Montessori advanced materials, activities, and experiences, which are designed to foster physical, intellectual, creative, and social independence;
    • a schedule that allows large blocks of uninterrupted time to problem solve, to see the interdisciplinary connections of knowledge, and to create new ideas;
    • a classroom atmosphere that encourages social interaction for cooperative learning, peer teaching and emotional development.

    In the Montessori classroom, the students learn to respect themselves, others, and their environment.
    They also learn self-motivation, which is the key to the child's learning for the rest of his/her life.
